Samantha Kolozy is a driven Automotive Technology student at J-Tech. Born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, Samantha’s passion for cars began with an interest in aftermarket parts, leading her to modify her vehicle and learn basic maintenance through self-research and hands-on experience. Her dedication paid off when she traded her modified car for her dream car, a 1985 Toyota MR2, which she continually works on and perfects.
Sam’s journey to J-Tech was inspired by a friend who attends the school. After careful consideration and research, she decided to enroll, fully committing to her passion for automotive technology. While currently working as a warehouse supervisor, Samantha is eager to work in the automotive field with aspirations to work for prestigious brands like Porsche or Lotus.
At J-Tech, Sam has found joy in learning about electronics and is excited to tackle the challenges of working on the Mach-E, electric SUV donated by Bozard Ford. During her first term, Sam showcased her skills in the Destination D.A.T.E. competition, winning the challenge of diagnosing a truck issue. Samantha’s goal is to become a Master Mechanic with her own shop, accumulating as much knowledge as possible to excel in her career and share her expertise with others.
Sam’s hard work and dedication have been recognized through scholarships and awards. She was awarded the Tech Force scholarship and a Women in Autocare scholarship, the latter providing her with a $3,000 toolbox. She has also achieved perfect attendance, which she takes great pride in.
In her time at J-Tech, Sam has built strong relationships with her instructors, who help her understand complex concepts while making learning enjoyable. They have recognized her dedication, encouraging her to complete various online certifications, including JPRO, and to work towards JCB, Allison Transmission, and Ford Certifications. Samantha has gained diverse skills, from forklift driving and welding to understanding modern electrical systems. This broad experience is particularly valuable as she transitions from working on older cars to newer models.
Outside of the classroom, Sam enjoys singing, driving her MR2, playing video games, and spending time with her wife and their four cats. She also loves helping others with car repairs, believing that every different make and model she works on broadens her automotive knowledge. Sam’s advice for new and prospective J-Tech students to embrace the challenge and pursue their goals with determination!
